House of Hope believes that women can overcome dependency, barriers, and challenges; moving from a state of homelessness to thriving in the community through the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
Sojourner House of Hope is located in Williamsport Pennsylvania it is a local ministry umbrellaed under Sojourner Truth Ministry (our local soup kitchen). The House of Hope is a six month communal, transitional living program designed for women coming out of homelessness. This program will address virtually each point of need to help women take important steps in a direction away from dependency on society and towards self-sufficiency. House of Hope provides the necessary links between the Resident and the community, with the goal of providing the Resident with the resources to solve her own problems. By making healthy choices, such as living a substance-free life, developing and maintaining a budget, establishing a healthy and supportive circle of friends, and maintaining steady employment. The hope is to help the Residents stop self-destructive behavior and avoid future contact with the criminal justice system. House of Hope seeks to be a place of safety and healing through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ, providing homeless women with a supportive transitional home and Christ based care in order to address the root issues contributing to their state of need, so they can be empowered through healthy, sound, living to develop a plan and transition into autonomy, sustainability and community.
Sojourner House of Hope is an adult female Christ-based communal housing program serving adult women. The six to nine-month program includes curriculum, safety, accountability, and structure, among a myriad of life skills options to work on.
We need volunteers to provide social support and build meaningful relationships with the women who reside with us and become part of our family at Sojourner Truth Ministries, Inc. Additionally, our volunteers help facilitate and maintain the home through various tasks (such as sweeping, being sure everything is in order).
Women volunteers are welcome and needed for this most important, often unseen work. You must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer with us. At House of Hope, we use every day to make a difference in the lives of our residents. The wellbeing of our volunteers is of the utmost importance, and we only ask you to commit to volunteering based on an individual assessment of personal health and comfort. We work to provide the safest environment for all in our care and we appreciate your consideration.
Emails are also welcome Angelique4stm@gmail.com for more information. Thank you for your consideration!
